1,3 mio. euro pentru un piano…

LALIQUE one of a kind “Masque de Femme” Steinway & Sons Piano raises approx.

(approx. EUR 1.3 millon/HK$11.7 million) at China Guardian, Hong Kong

The one-of-a-kind “Masque de Femme” piano, a collaboration between the French luxury crystal house Lalique and world renowned piano maker, Steinway & Sons
raised HK$11.7 million at China Guardian 5th anniversary Full Moon charity gala dinner in Hong Kong at the weekend (30th September). Net proceeds from the sale will benefit the Ai You Foundation for disadvantaged children in mainland China who suffer from congenital heart disease.

The “Masque de Femme” piano represents a blend of exquisite craftsmanship and artistic excellence from two historic luxury brands and the auction is the finale in this unique partnership. It is also the first collaboration between Lalique and China Guardian Hong Kong.

To make such an instrument took two years of development as the artisans had to be extremely meticulous in perfecting the techniques required to successfully ally crystal with the materials of Steinway & Sons. The crystal elements on the piano took over 500 hours alone to install. Lalique’s work on the design of “Masque de Femme” piano focused on two iconic motifs; “Coutard” and “Masque de Femme.” The unique art piece is adorned with 1,043 individual crystals. Each crystal is
surrounded by a geometric motif of a fountain, symbolizing the Chinese dictum “life begets life and it goes on till eternity.” Each crystal has been worked, cut, polished and signed at the Lalique factory in Alsace, France and then placed on the piano in the workshops of Steinway & Sons in Hamburg, Germany. The one-of-a-kind masterpiece, “Masque de Femme” piano combines the perfection of Lalique and Steinway & Sons and as a result has an extremely high ornamental and collection value.

Mr. Silvio Denz, Chairman and CEO of LALIQUE, “This piano is a piece of art and will be remembered for generations. We are pleased to work with China Guardian and delighted by the
generosity of the successful bidders in securing such a wonderful contribution to The Ai You Foundation.

Lalique decided to put this piano into auction because when you are fortunate in life you should also give back to those who are less fortunate, and to do a charity auction for such a piece we considered it was the right thing to do. We are proud to stand by the Ai You Foundation.” Lalique has been active in participating in a number of charity auctions such as the one held in 2015 for the limited edition crystal panel “Eternal-Beauty” designed by the British artist Damien Hirst, the collected proceeds of which went to Po Leung Kuk. In 2016, Lalique had four crystal sculptures from the “ELTON JOHN MUSIC IS LOVE FOR LALIQUE” collection auctioned in America for The Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF) with the proceeds to the global combat against AIDS. This year, Whiskey distiller The Macallan collaborated with Lalique for the creation of “The Macallan in Lalique Legacy Collection” sold at the Sotheby’s “Finest & Rarest Wines and the Macallan” auction in Hong Kong. The proceeds were donated to various Hong Kong and Asian charitable bodies.
