Donatella Versace’s ode to Gianni seemed an apt metaphor for the current state of Italian fashion, stuck between yesterday and today.
Donatella invited original supers Carla Bruni, Claudia Bruni, Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campell, Cindy Crawford and Helena Christensen to celebrate the life and work of Gianni Versace on the runway as fashion history was made once more. The collection, split into 12 sections and presented by today’s top models, drew on the prints her brother created from 1991 to 1995, as Donatella “finally found the courage to really go to the archives and pay tribute to Gianni”. Look closely at the Vogue, Warhol, Icons, Baroque, Animalia, Native Americans and Metal Mesh-inspired pieces (to name a few of the Nineties collections) and there are some more hidden notes to takeaway.
