Classic Fusion Italia Independent: a name destined for this new special series. This coming-together of Hublot’s watchmaking expertise, the limitless creativity of Italia Independent through its founder Lapo Elkann, and the treasures of the renowned Italian tailor Rubinacci takes the fusion of classicism and innovation to a new level. This art of fusion began in Rubinacci’s archives, home to the finest collection of cloths. Searching through these 60,000 square metres of precious houndstooth, tweed, velvet and more, Hublot and Lapo Elkann uncovered a collection of tartans from the 1970s, which they have brought back to life by incorporating them into the Classic Fusion. Dials and straps are crafted from these precious wool cloths to dress this new range of chronographs with unmistakable Italian elegance.
Hublot was created in 1980. During this era, it was the first Swiss watch luxury brand to fuse precious metals with less conventional materials such as natural rubber. This creative concept, known as the „Art of Fusion”, combined with an original design in the shape of a porthole („hublot” in French), led to a veritable revolution in the watchmaking industry. When Jean-Claude Biver and Ricardo Guadalupe took over control of the brand in 2004, they gave it tremendous momentum, leading to impressive growth. With the launch of the Big Bang, the multiple award winning chronograph with a contemporary and elegant design, the brand started achieving records, awards and success. After attaining almost a tenfold increase in turnover in four years, the brand was bought by the LVMH Group in 2008. In 2009, it opened a new high-tech manufacture spanning 6000m2, dedicated to grandes complications and the creation of the UNICO movement, a column-wheel chronograph movement integrated into the dial side, dreamt up, developed and manufactured entirely by Hublot. In 2015, just 6 years after opening its plant, Hublot inaugurated a second building in order to keep pace with increasing demand and maintain the vertical growth of its production. Today, through its pillar collections– the Big Bang, Classic Fusion, Spirit of Big Bang and Manufacture Pieces – which house watch complications such as the tourbillon, minute repeater, split second, jumping second, to name but a few, Hublot continues to write the story of the Art of Fusion by combining unusual materials such as brigh colored ceramics, unscratchable 18K gold (the pattented Magic Gold), carbon fibre, zirconium, tantalum, tungsten, magnesium, texalium, linen, titanium, rubber and nomex with more traditional materials like gold, diamonds and precious stones. Hublot currently has over 70 exclusive boutiques around the world located at the most prestigious addresses.
